Originally named Smoky Topaz, the Smokey Quartz has been named after its smokey colour. The quartz can be found in Brazil, Madagascar, Russia, Scotland, Ukraine, and Switzerland. Its colouring is caused by natural and artificial gamma rays creating a glassy brown smokey appearance.
