The name 'Citrine' comes from the Latin word 'Citrina' meaning yellow. However, the stone didn't always have that name, it was only until 1566 that is was changed from the name Yellow Quartz. The stones colour can vary from a pale yellow to a deep darker orange; it is most commonly a rich yellow colour. Citrine is part of the crystalline quartz family, along with others such as Amethyst and Rose Quartz.
