The name 'Citrine' comes from the Latin word 'Citrina' meaning yellow or the French word 'Citron' meaning Lemon. However, the stone didn't always have that name, it was only until 1566 that is was changed from the name Yellow Quartz. The stones colour can vary from a pale yellow to a deep darker orange, it is most commonly a rich yellow colour. Natural Citrine is very rare, because of this lots of synthetic crystals get treated to look like Citrine and then get passed off as one. You can only mine for Citrine in Brazil and Uruguay.
